Driving Question: How can we strengthen the church of today using the evidence from the crusades and could there have been another way to resolve the argument between the Catholics and Muslims?
During the crusades in the middle ages there were many things that happened that strengthened the Pope and the Church's power, using the facts from the nine main crusades how can we gather an understanding of who deserves the Holy Land and Jerusalem?
To the Christians the Holy Land (Bethlehem) was the birthplace of Jesus and Jerusalem was the great city where he did his preaching’s. The Christians also wanted Jerusalem because they believed Jesus was crucified on a nearby hill called Golgotha. Nazareth was Jesus' home town and was believed to be somewhere near the Holy Land.
For the Muslims the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem was the first direction of prayer and also the third holiest place for all of the denominations of their religion (Islam). It was also believed that Muhammad was taken by the flying steed buraq (mythical creature) to visit Jerusalem where he prayed and then visited heaven in a single night. Jerusalem was strongly related to the Prophets of Islam.
